A Dromological Vision Machine

Interactive stereoscopic video installation. 2013

A Dromological Vision machine investigates the limitations traditional ocular optics put on our perception of mediated imagery. From several metres back the projected image on a wall appears like an apparently fixed colour field painting. As the observer approaches the image on a dotted white line on the floor, the image transforms into vaguely recognisable, subtly vibrating shapes before becoming a very specific place. By moving forward and back, the observer chooses to linger longest—who knows why—on that alluring halfway mark where definition hovers, where reality begins to transform into abstraction.
